Rules of the Competition:
1. The International Competition for young guitarists Cyprus - 2000
will take place in Nicosia - Cyprus from 1st until 6th of July 2000.
2. The Competition is open to guitarists of any nationality who comply
with the age limit set for each category and who have registered as competitors.
3. The Competition is divided into two categories:
· Category A - guitarist born on the 1st of July 1985 or later
· Category B - guitarist born on the 1st of July 1980 or later
4. Registration is valid only after the organizing committee has received:
· correctly filed and signed registration form.
· copy of a document proving the competitor’s age (birth certificate
or passport).
· brief curriculum vitae (stating years of study, names of schools
and teachers, competitions, concert activities).
· program for the pre-selection and final.
· payment of the participation fee CYP 15 payable to the Pancyprian
Society of Classical Guitar.
5. Registrations will close on the 20th of June 2000.
6. Traveling and accommodation is the competitor’s responsibility.
7. Drawing of lots will take place at ARTE (Arhontiko Technon) Leonidou
34-36, Nicosia on the 1st of July 2000 at 12.00. The competitor must be
present at the drawing of lots. The purpose of the drawing is to determine
the order of performance of the competitors.
8. Each competitor should perform from memory the following program:
Category A:
Pre-selection: a) J.S.Bach Menuet II from BWV 1007 ("Baroque
Book" - Editions Chanterelle,
ECH-2111),
b) free choice program of 5 minutes maximum duration.
Final: free choice program of 15 minutes maximum duration.
Category B:
Pre-selection: a) F.Sor Study op.35 No.8 (F.Sor Complete Studies
in Urtext -Editions Chanterelle,
ECH-491),
b) free choice program of 5 minutes maximum duration.
Final: free choice program of 20 minutes maximum duration.
Competitors of both categories may use for the final pieces played
by them at the pre-selection, if they wish. Copies of the free choice pieces
must be handed to the jury before the performance.
9. Both the pre-selection and the finals will be open to the public.
10. The Competition will be judged by an International Jury formed
by recognized musicians. The names of the members of the Jury will be announced
before the Competition.
11. A member of the Jury will not vote for a competitor who is his
student.
12. Three Prizes will be awarded for each cetegory:
Category A:
1st Prize: CYŁ 150, an "Almansa" guitar valued at CYŁ
175 (Almansa Prize), Guitar Editions valued CYŁ 60 (Chanterelle Verlag
Prize).
2nd prize: CYŁ 100, a "Yamaha" guitar valued at CYŁ 79
(Nakas music Prize), Guitar Editions valued CYŁ 30 (Chanterelle Verlag
Prize).
3rd prize: CYŁ 60, Guitar Editions valued CYŁ 30 (Chanterelle
Verlag Prize), CYP 50 of purchases of music items (Evangelismos Prize).
Category B:
1st prize: CYŁ 250, a "Yamaha" guitar valued at CYŁ 389
(Nakas music Prize), Guitar Editions valued CYŁ 80 (Chanterelle Verlag
Prize).
2nd prize: CYŁ 150, an "Almansa" guitar valued at CYŁ
205 (A|mansa Prize), Guitar Editions valued CYŁ 70 (Chanterelle Verlag
Prize).
3rd prize: CYŁ 100, Wuitar Editions valued CYŁ 50 (Chanterelle
Verlag Prize). CYP 50 of purchases of music items (Partassides Prize).
13. The Jury reserves the right to withhold any prize if the
required standard of performance is not met.
14. The decision of the Jury is final.
15. Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony held on the 6th of July. Winners
must be present to collect their prizes and perform a short program of
their choice.
16. The rights of perfomance during the competition belong to the Pancyprian
Society of Classic Guitar.
17. Registration for the Competition implies the competitor’s acceptance
of these rules.
